Architectural Elements is a team of artisans that design, fabricate, and install specialized architectural & landscape related projects. Working with all metals, wood, glass, & plastics, we can custom-fabricate any manner of decorative elements and architectural details– from intricate light fixtures to multi-story staircases.

Design Team Lead

Job Summary:

The Design Team Lead is responsible for taking the designs of architects and developing these designs into buildable works of art and architecture. The Design Team Leader will be working on their own projects while overseeing other projects in the design department. Duties include: Coordinating with internal teams in estimating, project management, and fabrication. Integrating the design criteria of architects and structural engineers while devising the best possible production methods. Using Solidworks modeling software to develop proposals and shop plans.

Key Position Roles:

  • Lead a team of 3-4 designers/drafters
  • Strong understanding of metal fabrication
  • Accessing written estimates and project notes to gauge the design requirements
  • Evaluate and incorporate structural engineering and architectural design intent of others
  • Identify design constraints and develop drafting plans based on criteria & potential variables
  • Determine if a design solution is aesthetically and structurally correct, cost effective & efficiently manufactured
  • Draft, revise, and approve drawings
  • Adhere to all AE, client, & state-required processes/policies
  • Manage maintenance of process documentation & file structure organization
  • Document and revise design processes and present progress reports to stakeholders
  • Meet with management to deliver feedback and develop work optimization strategies
  • Implementing strategies to optimize workflow and operational efficiency
  • Prioritize & delegate responsibilities, monitoring projects as they proceed
  • Ensuring final designs are compliant with engineering, site constraints and building codes
  • Enforce drafting standards and perform quality control

Qualifications:

  • Degree in industrial design, engineering or architecture or 5 years of directly applicable work experience
  • 5+ years experience in computer-aided design and drafting
  • 5+ years of Solid Works experience
  • 5+ years experience in working in the metal fabrication field
  • Experience in leadership and coordination with other departments
  • Ability to sketch concepts and convey complex ideas verbally
  • Ability to work as a team or independently, fostering open team communication and collaboration
  • Ability to accept and integrate other ideas and constructive criticism
  • Ability to lead a group through complicated design problems
